Bite The Apple – A new collective exhibition

Bite The Apple – Erotic Art Exhibition. Third Floor Productions. Barbican Theatre, Plymouth Oct 31st – Dec 3 – 1997
Beautiful Production #1 – #3. Triptych

For the short time I lived in Plymouth I joined the Third Floor art group. I painted a live piece at an open air event and later we had the Erotic Art exhibition at the Barbican Theatre. Art, Poetry and music. As well as the three paintings, there was a couple of black and white line sketches that were used in the photocopied zine. To go with the apple theme. The illustrations were drawn on recycled fruit delivery cases. I took them apart. Bonded paper onto the bottom board and used the wooden slats for the framing, nailed onto loose wooden beams. I used the left over parts to make a couple of small abstract pieces that I gave away.

I also showed these again at the Seven Deadly Venoms exhibition in Birmingham in 1998. I got a good response to these again but for some reason never went back to work on more from the sketch book. It’s a tough one to revisit now when social media wont let you go near showing erotica, how do you show it to people. I still have these in my attic. For recycled wood, they have held up amazingly well. Don’t let anyone tell you that you cant paint on any old surface.

I tried censoring these for social media, but somehow its made them seem worse
